The Annual Golden Turtle Award Presented to Rick Brems

The 2022 Golden Turtle award to an individual was presented to Rick Brems for his outstanding efforts in helping to create the Active River Project (ARP) master plan for enhancing river and riverfront recreation, improving river front mobility and connectivity, and enhancing the water and wildlife ecosystems. Rick personally traveled to Iowa, Georgia, Colorado, Indiana, and Wisconsin to see how other communities have utilized their rivers and riverfronts in projects similar to ARP. Rick initiated the A River Flows Through It winter lecture series that has entertained and educated well over 1,000 members of the community on various aspects of the Fox River. He has also played a key role in organizing the St. Charles portion of the annual River Clean-up effort as part of Fox River watershed effort stretching from its headwaters in Wisconsin to its confluence with the Illinois River near Ottawa, IL.
