The Conservation Foundation and The River Corridor Foundation of St. Charles Thank the Fox River Clean-up Teams!

Thank you our Fox River Clean-up Teams!

It may have poured and the river may have been running high closing the river to boats, but the spirit of some 50 volunteers was not dampened last Saturday, September 21st for the It’s Our Fox River Day clean-up event.  Team energy was high and volunteers were laser-focused on picking up trash along the Fox River in St. Charles.  Working in seven locations that included Ferson Creek Park, Boy Scout Island, Norris Woods, the Bob Leonard Walk, Mount St. Mary’s Park and the east side of the river along Langum Park.  The teams brought back a lot of trash, a lot of smiles and some weary footsteps.

The River Corridor Foundation of St. Charles and The Conservation Foundation, who worked together to organize the event under the coordinating support of Friends of the Fox River, want to send out a big thank you to everyone who participated and worked so hard to help clean up the Fox River.  We also want the recognize the Kiwanis volunteers who worked along Route 31 to clear brush and keep views open across the river to Pottawatomie Park.  This hard working group has been quietly doing this work without fanfare for a number of years.

We must also recognize and thank the St. Charles Park District who made Ferson Creek Park available as our workday headquarters and who picked up all our bags of trash.

We were heartened to hear student volunteers talking about getting more school participants involved and others suggesting we should do this again in the spring.  Stay tuned; we just might!  In the meantime, appreciate our cleaner Fox River and mark your calendars for next year; Saturday September 19th 2020.  Let’s work together to make it even bigger and better!

It was indeed our Fox River day!
