Bob Leonard Walkway

Bob Leeonard Walkway Gateway and Waterfall

The first phase of the Bob Leonard Walkway was completed in 2007 just in time to be tested with the floods that occurred in August of 2007. We were pleased that the stabilization did its job and protected the shoreline with very little damage. Once again heavy flooding put the stabilization to the test in April, 2008 and once again the work completed with Phase 1 held the shoreline. This first phase was critical to the project because if the shoreline stabilization had not been completed when it was, we would have lost an extensive amount of shoreline and the project would not have been able to proceed. Phase 2 of the Walkway has recently been completed and included the installation of bike/pedestrian pathway. The St. Charles Kiwanis Club donated a bench with a plaque in Bob's honor and the city provided the boulder for the dedication plaque honoring all contributors. Currently funds are being raised to start construction of the extension of The Bob Leonard Walkway from the pedestrian bridge South connecting at Mount St. Mary Park. The extension will include a new brick pathway and further stabilization/beautification of the shoreline along that section of our mighty Fox River.

Thank you to the St. Charles Kiwanis Club

Frank Gorham Canoe Launch

Frank Gorham Canoe Launch On May 10, 2008 the Frank Gorham Canoe Launch was officially dedicated and opened. The Canoe Launch was funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources that the River Corridor Foundation applied for on behalf of the City of St. Charles. Frank Gorham served on the Downtown Partnership River Committee for over 5 years and he along with Elizabeth Bellaver and Kim Malay played an instrumental role in obtaining the IDNR grant. It is with great respect and appreciation that this canoe launch be dedicated in his honor. We would like to thank the City of St. Charles for their support and assistance along with the St. Charles Canoe Club for their support and donation of $1,000 toward the project. The Canoe Launch is located at the Municipal Complex along the Freedom Trail just north of the Police Station.
